Electrical Vault Fire Causes Power Outage at Pasadena Hyatt and Green Street

Sun Prairie lost itโ€™s volunteer fire captain during an accidental explosion. I took this photo during the procession that took place to honor our fallen firefighter.

A fire broke out in an underground electrical vault at the Hyatt Place Hotel in Pasadena, leading to a power outage and the evacuation of the hotel.

The incident occurred early Wednesday morning and resulted in disruptions along Green Street, affecting the hotel and the Paseo Colorado shopping center.

Although the fire was contained to the vault and extinguished shortly after firefighters arrived, the hotel remained without connected power due to fire damage.

Emergency generators were utilized to supply electricity to the building, while Pasadena Water & Power crews worked to restore electricity to the affected area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the blaze.

City of Pasadena Strengthens Leash Law Enforcement in Parks to Ensure Public Safety

The City of Pasadena is intensifying its enforcement of leash laws for dogs in city parks following an increase in reports of off-leash dogs.

Pasadena Municipal Code prohibits off-leash dogs in city parks, except in designated off-leash areas, with violators facing citations and fines of up to $500.

Starting February 22, the city will start issuing citations to dog owners with off-leash dogs to safeguard the safety of all park visitors. Leashing dogs is crucial to prevent dog attacks and other accidents.

Park visitors witnessing unleashed dogs can report concerns to Pasadena Humane at (626) 792-7151 ext. 102.

Caltech Physicist Unveils the Math Burger: A Fusion of Math and Culinary Art

In a unique fusion of physics and culinary art, Caltech physicist Koji Arai, renowned for his work at the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO), recently unveiled a remarkable creation โ€“ the Math Burger.

Arai, accustomed to delving into complex equations related to measuring ripples in space-time, applied his mathematical expertise to the seemingly unrelated realm of burger-making.

His digital creation, the Math Burger, emerged from a single complex mathematical function, meticulously detailed on his LIGO webpage.

The project was sparked by Arai's wife challenging him to create a burger using a computer-aided design (CAD) program, which ultimately led him to pursue a grand unified math equation for burgers.

This innovative endeavor reflects Arai's fascination with simplifying complex concepts, a trait shared by many physicists.

Despite his ability to perceive the beauty of a deluxe cheeseburger as seven spheres connected by one mathematical function, Arai humorously acknowledges that this mathematical masterpiece ultimately succumbs to the pleasure of consumption.
