Search and Rescue Teams Save
Injured Pasadena Hiker

A rescuer hoists a victim into a helicopter.

A hiker with an ankle injury was successfully rescued from a Pasadena canyon on Sunday, after a nearly two-hour effort by Pasadena firefighters and Altadena search and rescue personnel.

The technical rescue response began at 1:13 p.m. when Pasadena Fire Department resources were dispatched to the 2250 block of Pinecrest Drive for a reported injured hiker in Eaton Canyon.

Pasadena Fire rescue crews worked with Altadena Mountain Rescue Team members and located the hiker along a trail in the canyon.

The hiker was treated on scene before being transported out using rescue equipment.

The hiker was then moved to a utility terrain vehicle and driven the rest of the way before being taken by ambulance to a local hospital for further treatment of an ankle injury.

The total operation lasted approximately 1 hour and 42 minutes from the time the first unit arrived on the scene.

Scam Alert: Pasadena Residents Urged to
Stay Vigilant

Cyber security image

The Pasadena Police Department has reported a significant increase in scams targeting residents, prompting a warning to residents to remain vigilant.

Scammers are employing various tactics, including impersonating law enforcement and sending phishing emails, to extort money and personal information from unsuspecting victims.

In one common scam, scammers falsely display a law enforcement phone number on the victim's caller ID, attempting to convince them to send money or provide sensitive financial data such as bank account or credit card information.

The Pasadena Police Department emphasizes that it will never ask for any type of payment over the telephone.

Residents are advised to take precautions to protect themselves from scams. Avoid sending money or providing personal information to unknown individuals, and do not feel pressured by threatening callers.

Instead, verify the story by contacting the police department directly.

Other useful tips to avoid scams include using two-factor authentication, avoiding accessing personal information on public Wi-Fi networks, learning to identify phishing emails, using strong, unique passwords for every website, and not answering calls from unknown numbers.
