Pasadena Man, 71, Convicted of First-Degree Murder and Assault

In a trial that concluded on Monday, Jan. 29, 71-year-old Pasadena resident Jose Antonio Santiago was found guilty of first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

The charges stem from a 2018 attack outside the Colorado Bar in Pasadena, where Santiago fatally stabbed Jerry Chan, 42, and assaulted Daniel Trevino, 32.

Both victims were residents of Pasadena. Santiago was acquitted of an attempted murder charge related to the assault on Trevino.

The incident occurred after Santiago became upset when Chan did not recognize him inside the bar.

Santiago remains in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles and is scheduled for sentencing on Feb. 14 at the Pasadena Superior Court.

Theft of Brass Plaques in Pasadena Reflects Growing Concern Over Metal Theft Trend

In Pasadena, brass plaques near the John K. Van De Kamp Bridge were stolen, adding to the rising trend of metal thefts driven by increasing metal prices.

The stolen plaques, one dedicated to John Van de Kamp and the other describing the bridge, have prompted concerns about the security of public infrastructure and the preservation of historical markers.

The incident also sheds light on the broader issue of metal theft, which has resulted in significant damages to streetlights and traffic signals in the city.

The Pasadena Police Department is actively investigating these thefts, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance and preventative measures to protect public property.
