Pasadena Police Department Confiscates Eight Illegal Firearms in January 2024

The Pasadena Police Department has reported the confiscation of eight illegal firearms so far in January 2024. The Street Crime Unit (SCU) has been pivotal in this achievement, seizing four of the eight weapons.

The department has been proactive in ensuring community safety through regular checks and searches.

Notable incidents include the discovery of an unregistered handgun during a routine check under the PRCS program and the arrest of two men with a loaded handgun in their vehicle following a traffic stop.

Help Complete Colorado Street Bridge Barrier Survey by Jan 31

The City of Pasadena is encouraging residents to participate in a survey on the Colorado Street Bridge Barrier Enhancement Project, which aims to gather community feedback on preliminary barrier design concepts.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to address the increase in suicide incidents on the historic bridge.

The survey is available online until January 31, and the City has recommended nets as a possible solution, similar to those recently installed on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

Former Pasadena Schools Superintendent Among Four Charged in Indiana Virtual Schools Fraud

A federal grand jury has indicted four individuals, including a former superintendent of the Pasadena Unified School District, for their roles in a conspiracy to defraud the Indiana Department of Education through the operation of two online charter schools.

The indictment alleges that the defendants manipulated enrollment numbers to fraudulently receive over $44 million in funding, resulting in the submission of false numbers representing the enrollment of over 4,500 students.

The FBI, U.S. Department of Education Office of Inspector General, Indiana State Police, and Indiana Office of Inspector General investigated this case after an audit by the Indiana State Board of Accounts in 2019.

Warning! Avoid Eating Raw Oysters

The Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) has cautioned residents and visitors to refrain from consuming raw oysters from specific Mexican regions due to a link with stomach illnesses in California.

The affected areas include Laguna De Guerrero Negro, Baja California, Mexico; Laguna Manuela, Baja California, Mexico; Bahia Salina, Sonora, Mexico; and Estero Morua, Sonora, Mexico.

The PPHD is currently investigating related complaints and coordinating with the CDPH to evaluate local impacts.
