Pasadena Comic Con Brings Pop Culture to Life

The Pasadena Comic Con is a one-day event taking place at the Pasadena Convention Center on January 28th.

The event will feature artists, voice actors, writers, and vendors, with a lineup that includes Butch Patrick of "The Munsters," cast members from "The Cuphead Show," and Van Partible, the creator of "Johnny Bravo."

DJ Lance Rock and actor Charles Shaughnessy of "The Nanny" will also make appearances. Vendors will offer toys, comics, and other pop culture merchandise.

General admission is $15, and early admission is $25.

Unanimous Approval: Pasadena Allocates $2.8 Million for Rent Stabilization Department

The Pasadena City Council has unanimously approved a $2.876 million operating budget for the city's new Rent Stabilization Department.

This budget will be sourced from a rental housing fee paid by owners for each of over 30,000 rental units in Pasadena.

The department's budget includes expenses for personnel, services, supplies, and internal service charges.

Council member Tyron Hampton expressed concerns about the lack of reserves for the department, while Vice Mayor Steve Madison emphasized that landlords should not have difficulty paying the annual rental housing fee.

The budget will be used for hiring 12 full-time equivalent employees, establishing a rental registry database, securing an office location, and purchasing office furniture and technology, among other expenses.

Pasadena City Council Approves $1.2 Million for Cell Phone Tracking Technology

GPSTiger Vehicle Tracking Application for Handheld Devices

The Pasadena City Council has greenlit a $1,281,614 contract with Tactical Support Equipment for the acquisition of a cell site simulator, a device that enables police to track cell phones in real time.

This technology, also known as a Stingray or IMSI catcher, raises privacy concerns as it allows police to locate and monitor cell phones with more precision than telecommunication companies.

The Police Department has emphasized that the device will only be used when legally authorized and allowed, with search warrants required for its use to comply with the Fourth Amendment.

The funding for the cellular site simulator has reportedly been identified through asset forfeiture and not from the City’s General Fund, with the Police Department stating that the technology only pinpoints the target’s handset and not any other device.
