In Pasadena, a 16-year-old boy from Los Angeles was shot in the eye with a BB gun at a bus stop on Lincoln Avenue and Wyoming Street.

The incident occurred when a beige 2002 Honda Civic stopped in front of the bus stop, and a 17-year-old passenger began shooting at the people waiting.

The victim was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital, and the investigation is ongoing.

Stay Cozy and Safe: Fireplace and Chimney Safety Tips from the Pasadena Fire Department

In response to the recent cold weather leading to increased fireplace use, the Pasadena Fire Department has compiled essential safety tips for fireplace and chimney use.

These tips include inspecting the chimney before use, covering it with a spark arrester, and maintaining a 10ft clearance from combustible vegetation.

For solid fuel fireplaces, securing logs before starting the fire, using proper fuel, and employing appropriate tools are emphasized.

Gas fireplace safety measures include installation by a licensed contractor, keeping the damper open during use, and being vigilant for unusual odors or rapid changes in flame appearance.

Additionally, a comprehensive checklist covering aspects such as fire supervision, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and proper disposal of ashes is provided.

As Martin Luther King Jr. Day approaches, Pasadena residents and businesses are reminded of the closures and service adjustments that will be in effect on the holiday.

City Hall and many City services will be closed on Monday, Jan. 15, with the exception of essential emergency services provided by the Pasadena Fire and Police Departments.

While certain offices and services will be closed, trash, recycling, and yard waste collection will continue as scheduled throughout the week.

Parking meters will be free, and parking time limits will not be enforced on the holiday, with the exception of specific violations such as overnight parking, red curb parking, "No Parking" zones, and blocking fire hydrants.

Some services will be available online, and Pasadena Transit and Dial-A-Ride buses will operate on regular weekday schedules.

Pasadena Public Library sites and community and recreation centers will be closed to the public, and the Pasadena Public Health Department will also be closed on the holiday.

Residents are encouraged to take note of these closures and service adjustments and to contact the appropriate departments for any non-emergency issues.
