Pasadena Water and Power Unveils New EV Charging Depot at Shoppers Lane

Electric car charging in Birmingham City Centre

PWP has launched a new EV charging depot at Shoppers Lane, featuring 12 Tesla V3 Superchargers and eight PWP-branded Tritium 150-kW DC Fast-Chargers.

The depot is part of PWP's ongoing efforts to expand transportation electrification infrastructure, with over 100 publicly accessible EV charging stations throughout the city.

From January 2024, PWP will discontinue rebates for new plug-in EVs but continue the $250 rebate for qualifying used EVs, with an additional $250 bonus rebate available if the used EV is purchased from a Pasadena auto dealer.

An extra $1,000 is available for income-qualifying customers. Residential electric customers can receive a $600 rebate for installing a qualifying “Wi-Fi enabled” or "Internet Connected" EV charger at their home, or a $200 rebate for a standard EV charger.

PWP has started a water main replacement project on Fair Oaks Avenue, replacing two aging water mains with a 12-inch Ductile Iron Mainline Pipe.

The project will affect the area between Montana Street and Washington Boulevard, starting in January 2024 and ending in January 2025.

Construction will be carried out in one-block segments to minimize disruption to residents and businesses.

Water service will be intermittently affected, with at least 48 hours' notice given before any water interruption.

Heavy equipment will be used, and temporary traffic control and detour signs will be in place.

Most work will occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and businesses in the area will remain open and accessible.

For questions or concerns, contact Anne Quizon, Assistant Engineer, at (626) 744-7949 or send an email.

Pasadena Appeals Court Upholds Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum's Ownership of Nazi-Looted Painting

Many different paint pots

In a recent ruling, the federal appeals court in Pasadena decided that Madrid’s Thyssen-Bornemisza museum can maintain possession of a French impressionist painting looted by the Nazis from the ancestor of a San Diego County resident.

The case involved a dispute over Camille Pissarro’s “Rue Saint-Honore, Afternoon, Rain Effect,” which was inherited by Claude Cassirer's grandmother, Lilly Cassirer, and surrendered to the Nazis in 1939.

The court ruled in favor of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection Foundation, citing Spanish property law and the foundation's good faith ownership and display of the painting for eight years before its ownership was questioned.

Rose Bowl Advocated as Permanent Venue for College Football Playoff Championship Game by ESPN Analyst

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit recently took to social media to express his belief that the Rose Bowl should be designated as the permanent host of the College Football Playoff (CFP) Championship Game.

Herbstreit highlighted the Rose Bowl's unparalleled setting, beauty, and history, emphasizing its long and incredible history of memorable moments.

The Rose Bowl Game, established in 1902, has a rich history and was previously known for hosting the top teams from the Big Ten and the Pac-12.

However, with the CFP's recent expansion to a 12-team format, the annual bowl games will now serve as host sites for the quarterfinal and semifinal games.

Despite this change, the CFP Championship Game remains unattached to a traditional bowl game, leaving room for debate regarding its permanent host.
