Pasadena Man Sentenced for Possessing Machine Gun Parts, Mental Health Treatment Ordered
A man from Pasadena was sentenced to two years in prison for possessing machine gun parts.
Isaac Loftus, who was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release, including participation in a mental health treatment program, had been arrested in November 2022 near Thomas Jefferson High School after a witness reported seeing him point a firearm at two passing motorists.
During a search of Loftus’ residence, law enforcement found firearms and firearms cases, dozens of additional auto sears, and a large U.S. flag with symbols consistent with Boogaloo ideology.
Loftus, who was prohibited from possessing firearms as a result of having been declared a danger to himself and others in 2016, told officers who arrested him that they would “be dead” if they continued to question him.
Suspect in San Marino Package Thefts Arrested in Pasadena, Facing Multiple Charges
A man suspected of committing a series of package thefts in San Marino was arrested in Pasadena on Friday.
George Sam Elali of Reseda was caught on surveillance video allegedly stealing a package between Dec. 18 and Tuesday.
San Marino Police Department officers, using video surveillance, identified Elali's vehicle as a blue Toyota Prius and learned it was registered to him.
After detectives began surveilling the area, they saw Elali exit a home under construction, get into his vehicle and drive away.
Police trailed him until he parked in a parking lot on East Colorado Boulevard, where they approached him and questioned him about the stolen packages.
Elali admitted to committing at least nine package thefts in San Marino and was arrested and booked at the Pasadena Jail for grand theft, receiving stolen property and possession of methamphetamine.
His vehicle was confiscated because it was being used in the commission of a crime.
Caltech's Sustainable Solution: A Water-Based Catalyst for Chemical Production
In a significant advancement towards sustainable chemical manufacturing, Caltech researchers have developed a new method for producing propylene oxide, a widely used chemical feedstock, using a catalyst that replaces toxic and dangerous chemicals with water.
This new method, published in the journal Science, significantly reduces the environmental impact of the process and represents a significant step towards more sustainable chemical manufacturing.
Sheriff's Department Warns Residents of Scam Calls, Advises against Posting Personal Information Online
The Sheriff's Department has issued a warning to the public about the rising number of scam calls in Los Angeles County.
Scam callers often obtain personal information through social media, and residents are advised to never post sensitive information online.
The department stressed that law enforcement agencies will never ask for personal information or financial payment over the phone, and residents are encouraged to report any suspicious calls to their local law enforcement agency.
By following these guidelines, residents can protect themselves from scam callers and avoid falling victim to fraud.
