Pasadena's Ice House Venue Immortalizes Smothers Brothers' Live Albums

In 1964, the Smothers Brothers, a popular comedy duo, chose Pasadena's The Ice House as the venue to record two of their live albums, leaving an indelible mark on the city's entertainment history.

Despite financial constraints, the owners of The Ice House, Bob Stane and Willard Chilcott, struck a unique deal with the brothers, offering them two "souped-up scooters" in lieu of their performance fee.

The resulting live albums, "It Must Have Been Something I Said!" and "Tour de Farce: American History and Other Unrelated Subjects," were met with resounding success, drawing large, enthusiastic audiences and elevating the venue's status.

The liberal and youthful atmosphere of Pasadena, with its proximity to several colleges, provided an ideal backdrop for the brothers' politically charged comedy, resonating deeply with the knowledgeable and progressive audience.
