🗓️ Upcoming Local Events

Good morning, Pasadena! On this Sunday, December 24th, you can expect a cool but pleasant day ahead.

In the morning, temperatures will start in the upper 40s, climbing to the mid-50s by 10 am under partly cloudy skies. A warm jacket is recommended.

By noon, we’ll see mostly sunny skies with temperatures reaching the upper 50s, so a light sweater will do.

The afternoon will be the warmest, with low 60s and continued sunshine; layers are ideal.

Come evening, the temperature will drop to the low 50s, so it’s time to put on that warm jacket again as you enjoy the night.

Have a fantastic day, and stay cozy, Pasadena!

Pasadena Considers $213 Landlord Fee to Fund Rent Stabilization

The Pasadena Rental Housing Board is deliberating on a proposal to charge landlords an annual fee of $213 per rental unit.

This fee is designed to fund the operations of the city's new Rent Stabilization Department, as outlined in the Measure H Charter Amendment.

The amendment prohibits landlords from passing these fees onto tenants. With 31,316 rental units in Pasadena, the proposed fee could generate substantial revenue to cover the department's projected annual budget of $5.9 million.

The proposal has sparked a public debate, with opinions varying on its fairness and potential impact on the city's rental market.

Rose Parade in Pasadena Seeks Volunteer Float Decorators

I made 2 beautiful photos of tulips one year ago. But uploaded only 1. So, let this one be here too.

The Rose Parade, an annual event in Pasadena, is just a week away. The parade is known for its stunning floats, which are a testament to the creativity, dedication, and hard work of the teams that build them.

With just a week left, there's still time to become a part of the festivities. The parade welcomes volunteers to help with the final stages of decoration.

Volunteers are needed to apply seeds, bark, fruits, vegetables, grasses, and flowers to the floats.

If you're interested in becoming a volunteer float decorator, there are several commercial float builders and self-built float organizations that you can contact for volunteer information.

Most float builders have minimum age requirements, and all volunteer decorators will be required to sign a waiver.

The tournament recommends volunteers wear old clothes and comfortable close-toed shoes, and bring a jacket as it can get cool in the evenings.

45.5 Million Eyes on Pasadena: Visit Lauderdale Makes Debut in 2024 Rose Parade

Museu de Lisboa - Santo António

In a significant move, Visit Lauderdale, the official destination marketing organization for Greater Fort Lauderdale, Florida, will make its inaugural appearance in the iconic Pasadena Rose Parade on New Year's Day 2024.

The event will be headlined by Emmy-nominated songwriter, Alexander Star, who is acclaimed for his musical prowess and dedication to positive change.

Star will perform “Laudy Dayo,” the destination anthem, in a mid-parade performance, aligning with the Parade’s theme, “Celebrating a World of Music: The Universal Language.”

The Visit Lauderdale float, a 24x18x55 feet spectacle, will showcase Greater Fort Lauderdale's tropical paradise with 45,000 flowers, including 1,000 varieties of roses, and unique elements such as flax seeds, brussels sprouts, sesame seeds, blue statice, heliconia, and cymbidium orchids.

The float aims to represent the rich cultural heritage and commitment to inclusivity and diversity of Greater Fort Lauderdale.

The 135th Rose Parade will be aired on NBC and ABC starting at 8 a.m. in Pasadena, drawing over 800,000 on-site attendees and a national television audience of approximately 45.5 million viewers.
