🗓️ Upcoming Local Events

Today in Pasadena, we are expecting a day of consistent showers and scattered thunderstorms.

Morning temperatures will start at 57°, gradually rising to 63° in the afternoon, before cooling back down to 59° in the evening.

The wind will range from 4-6 mph, shifting from east to south-southeast throughout the day, before settling in an easterly direction in the evening.

Ensure to dress warmly and appropriately for the rain. Morning and noon are perfect for rain boots and waterproof jackets, while the afternoon calls for layering to stay comfortable.

The evening will be ideal for cozy indoor activities, dressed in a warm sweater and socks.

Pasadena City Services Adjust Schedules for Holiday Season

In light of the upcoming holiday season, most Pasadena city services including City Hall will be closed on December 25 and January 1.

Essential services such as the Fire and Police Departments will remain operational for emergencies.

The Citizen Service Center will be closed but can still be reached via web and mobile app.

Trash collection will be delayed by one day during the holiday weeks.

Christmas tree recycling will be available from December 26 to January 2 with curbside pickups from January 2 to 16.

Pasadena Transit services will not operate on the holidays, and parking enforcement will be relaxed.

Public library branches and the Permit Center will also be closed.

However, the city's parks will stay open for public use, although no site reservations will be accepted.

Pasadena Police Department Gears Up for DUI Checkpoint in Ongoing Safety Drive

To enhance road safety in Pasadena, the local police department is carrying out a DUI/Driver's License Checkpoint on Dec. 22.

The operation is part of an ongoing public safety initiative aimed at identifying and apprehending impaired drivers.

The department also emphasizes that driving under the influence of substances other than alcohol, including prescription medications and legal substances like medicinal and recreational marijuana, is illegal.

First-time DUI offenders face severe financial penalties and possible license suspension.

The police department encourages public cooperation and vigilance during this operation.

Rent Stabilization in Pasadena Gets a New Department and Interim Director

The City of Pasadena, in partnership with the Pasadena Rental Housing Board, has established a new Rent Stabilization Department to implement a voter-initiated rent stabilization program, Measure H.

The city has appointed Phillip Leclair as the interim Executive Director of this department. Leclair, a seasoned professional with 12 years of experience in the City of Pasadena Department of Information Technology, is expected to lay a solid foundation for the department.

His responsibilities will include supporting policy implementation, managing the rental registry, hiring and managing staff, and enhancing community engagement, among others.

His established relationships within the city, along with his leadership skills, point to a promising future for the department.

Pasadena's Women in NAACP Spearhead Dialogue on LA's Housing Crisis

On Dec. 21, National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day, Pasadena's Women In NAACP and the Institute for Nonviolence LA are hosting a dialogue on Los Angeles' housing crisis.

This event is part of the NAACP's "Days of Dialogue" series, a platform for community members to discuss various concerns. More than 75,518 people in the county experience homelessness, a figure that rose by 9% in 2023.

However, the number of shelter beds has increased by 68% since 2019, and more than 21,000 individuals have found permanent housing annually since 2020.

The online event is open to all and aims to foster a community-wide conversation about the issue.
