🗓️ Upcoming Local Events

Today in Pasadena, we're looking at a day of mild temperatures and light breezes.

The early morning will be a bit chilly with temperatures around 50°, so you might need a light jacket for your morning activities.

As we move into late morning and early afternoon, expect the temperatures to rise to a comfortable 73° under partly cloudy skies.

Dress in layers as you might want to shed them during the warmest part of the day.

During the afternoon, the temperature will peak at 74°, but the clouds will start to gather again, making for a slightly cooler late afternoon and evening with temperatures falling to a cozy 57°.

Remember your jacket for evening plans! Despite the changing cloud cover, there's no rain on the horizon, so it's going to be a great day to be out and about in beautiful Pasadena!

Seven-Figure Donation Boosts Pasadena Senior Center

The Pasadena Senior Center, established in 1960 as one of the first nonprofit senior centers in the nation, has been given a historic million-dollar donation.

This generous contribution will be used to support the center's endowment and fund its operations over the next four years.

The center offers a variety of services to the elderly community, from social interaction and recreation to basic support and needs services, education, and volunteerism.

This donation comes at a crucial time as Pasadena's aging population is expanding faster than many other cities of similar size.

Pasadena Prepares for Major Traffic Upheavals Affecting Thousands of Daily Commuters

congested

On the upcoming Saturday, December 16, the city of Pasadena is expecting considerable traffic disruptions. This will be due to two key events occurring simultaneously - construction work and the annual Flower St. Block Party.

The intersection of Walnut St. and Fair Oaks Ave. will be partially closed for construction work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This could potentially cause substantial inconvenience for daily commuters who rely on this route.

Furthermore, the Flower St. Block Party will necessitate the closure of Flower St. between Los Robles Ave. and Madison Ave. from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., adding to the traffic challenges in the city center.

In light of these events, residents and visitors are strongly advised to steer clear of these areas, plan their travel ahead, and seek alternate routes to circumvent any potential disruptions caused by these unavoidable closures.

37 Years of Musical Excellence and Over $685,000 in Awards

Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts is preparing for its 37th Annual Instrumental Competition, a venture that aims to support and promote talented young musicians from Los Angeles County.

The competition has been a successful platform since 1985, granting over $685,000 in awards and helping many young musicians jumpstart their careers in classical music.

This year, the competition will be held on March 3, 2024, at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music.

The funds for the competition are raised through the organization's annual benefit, the Pasadena Showcase House of Design.

Demonstrating a commendable sense of community service, the students of Pasadena High School are coming together this winter for a charitable cause.

The students, under the banner of their organization, Students Making a Change (SMAC), and in cooperation with Rose City, have initiated a Sock Drive.

The socks collected through this drive will be of immense help to the less fortunate residing in local homeless shelters during the harsh winter holidays.

This initiative not only provides physical warmth to those in need but also serves as a beacon of hope, highlighting the students' dedication to their community and their resolve to make a positive impact.

Students who wish to contribute to this noble cause can do so by dropping their sock donations at the Pasadena High School nurse's office, with the drive continuing until December 21, 2023.

Pasadena Library Aims for Record Ugly Christmas Sweater Day Turnout
