Health Alert in Pasadena as Respiratory Illnesses Surge

Pasadena, along with the broader Los Angeles region, is experiencing a surge in respiratory illnesses including influenza, RSV, and COVID-19, leading to heightened health alertness.

Although the situation is less severe than the previous year, health officials urge residents to remain vigilant.

The increase in illnesses is partially due to holiday gatherings, which traditionally facilitate virus transmission. The Pasadena Public Health Department is actively promoting preventive measures and vaccination.

They offer free flu vaccines and programs providing COVID-19 boosters to eligible residents, ensuring accessibility, especially for vulnerable populations.

Despite potential underestimation of actual health data due to factors like non-reportable at-home COVID tests, the city continues to monitor the situation closely.

Residents are advised to adhere to CDC recommendations for a healthy holiday season.

Pasadena Set to Harness the Sun: City Aims for 70% Solar Power by 2030

The Pasadena City Council has approved a new plan to meet the city's energy needs over the next 20 years, aiming to source between 57% to 70% of its energy from solar power by 2030, up from the current 8%.

The plan, known as the Waypoint Framework plan, also includes review points in 2026 and 2028 to assess its effectiveness.

The city also plans to retire the gas-fired Glenarm plant by 2030, though it currently owes about $85 million in debt on the facility.

The price has fallen by 1.8 cents to $4.801, according to data from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

This decrease is part of a longer trend that has seen prices fall by $1.513 over the past 75 days. However, the current price is still 19.3 cents higher than it was a year ago.

This pattern of falling prices is consistent with the national average, which has dropped for the 73rd time in the last 76 days.

Pasadena High School's Athletic Teams Showcase Resilience Amidst Victories and Setbacks

A collection of - what should we call them? Sports balls? Basketball, soccer ball, football. Yep. It's a bin of balls.

Pasadena High School's sports teams experienced a week of ups and downs.

The Boys Varsity Soccer team achieved a remarkable 5-2 win against Burroughs High School, while the Junior Varsity team experienced a 4-2 loss.

On the same day, the Girls Soccer teams also faced Burroughs High School. The JV team triumphed with a 2-0 win, but the Varsity team faced a tough 6-2 defeat.

The Boys Varsity Basketball team continued their undefeated streak with a 77-57 victory, and the JV team also won their match with a 79-43 scoreline.

The Girls Varsity Water Polo team, however, faced defeat in a non-league match against Alhambra High School, losing 11-8.

Pasadena's Cosmic Encounter: The 3200 Phaethon Meteor Shower

The city of Pasadena is preparing for a celestial spectacle as the holiday season gets underway.

The asteroid known as Phaethon 3200, which orbits close to our Sun every 524 days, will light up the sky with its debris field.

The event is closely associated with the constellation Gemini and is predicted to produce a spectacular 120 meteors per hour at its peak on the night of December 14.

The moon, in its waxing crescent phase, will provide the perfect dark backdrop for this cosmic light show.

As Earth swiftly moves through Phaethon 3200's debris field, the meteors will seem to radiate from the center of Gemini, creating a breathtaking spectacle.

This event is set to kick start Pasadena's season of light with a cosmic extravaganza that everyone can enjoy, especially those who venture away from the city's bright lights into the enveloping darkness.
