Pasadena Case Highlights Tensions Over Self-Defense Interpretation

Lady Justice.

A preliminary hearing took place at the Pasadena Courthouse involving a man and woman who are facing charges related to a contentious incident where the man allegedly fired a warning shot from a moving vehicle in response to threats against his family.

The defense argued that the man's actions were in self-defense and did not pose a risk of bodily injury.

However, the deputy district attorney countered that self-defense does not justify firing a weapon from a moving vehicle and highlighted that the bullet ricocheted, hitting a car's bumper.

The judge ruled there was sufficient cause for the male defendant's charges to proceed to trial, while the female defendant's charge was reduced to a misdemeanor.

Pasadena's Rental Housing Board Revamps Resolution System for Enhanced Accessibility

Hands on a laptop keyboard

The Pasadena Rental Housing Board (PRHB) has unanimously adopted a resolution that will introduce a chaptering system for its resolutions under the Measure H Charter Amendment.

This system aims to make regulations more readily accessible to the public and PRHB staff by grouping related resolutions together, rather than the current chronological ordering.

Since the start of this year, the Board has passed six resolutions related to the charter amendment, including rules of conduct for meetings, interest payments on security deposits by landlords, and just cause eviction policies.

More resolutions are expected in the next year, including those related to Individual Rent Adjustments and registration of Covered Rental Units by landlords.
