Pasadena’s JPL Leads the Pack with Six-Satellite SunRISE Mission

The Pasadena-based Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has completed the construction of six identical satellites as part of NASA's Sun Radio Interferometer Space Experiment (SunRISE) mission.

These satellites will together work as a large radio antenna in space, studying the physics behind solar explosions.

The mission aims to gain insights that could help protect astronauts and space equipment from showers of accelerated particles from the Sun.

The SunRISE mission, which is managed by JPL, will focus on understanding solar radio bursts, phenomena that result from high-energy solar events.

The mission could potentially provide insight into the complex relationship between these phenomena and help develop an early warning system for Earth.

At 97, Betye Saar Brings Immersive Art Home to Pasadena

In a tender nod to her Pasadena roots, seminal LA artist Betye Saar, at the age of 97, returns to The Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens with her immersive exhibition, “Betye Saar: Drifting Toward Twilight.”

The exhibition, on view until November 30, 2025, features a 17-foot-long vintage wooden canoe adorned with found objects and natural materials from The Huntington's 207-acre grounds.

The exhibition aims to blend the outside world with the gallery and provides a contemplative experience for the audience.
