Storm Alert: Pasadena Braces for One to Two Storms This Week, Says National Weather Service

The National Weather Service has issued a weather alert for Pasadena, California, spanning from Wednesday to Friday, with the likelihood of one to two storms hitting the area.

The forecast indicates a 100% chance of rain, with a 70% probability of rainfall measuring between 1-3 inches.

Residents should remain alert as there is a 10% chance that the rainfall could escalate to 3-6+ inches. On the other hand, there is a 20% chance that the area may receive rainfall of one inch or less.

This weather pattern is most likely to occur between Wednesday and Friday, but the possibility extends from Tuesday to Saturday.

As a result of the storm, the region may experience potential flooding, heavy snow above 7000 ft, strong southerly winds, and high surf.

Residents are advised to clear out rain gutters, consider having a backup plan for any outdoor activities, avoid flooded roads, and stay up to date with the current forecast for any changes.

Federal Grant to Fund Specialized Police Training Facility in Pasadena

The Pasadena City Council has approved the acquisition of a specialized training facility for the local Police Department.

This decision comes in the wake of growing calls for police reform, specifically relating to de-escalation techniques used during potentially volatile situations.

The facility, known as a "shoot house", will provide a controlled environment for officers to practice and perfect de-escalation strategies.

The cost of this equipment, amounting to $43,334, will be covered by a federal grant, the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) award.

Walking along a London Street. The message. Love not Hate. Let’s hope so.

"Allyship is Action: United Against Hate," an event hosted by the Western Justice Center, is set to take place on November 16, from 6 pm to 7:45 pm PST in Pasadena, CA.

The event, co-sponsored by the City of Pasadena Human Relations Commission and Pasadena Parks and Recreation Department, is part of a broader initiative to unite against hate.

Participants will be provided with tangible tools and strategies to combat hate crimes, with a focus on active, rather than passive, allyship.

The event features two training sessions, one by Lyndi Woo from Right to Be and the other by Linda Bustamante of 211 LA County, aimed at educating attendees on how to safely intervene in hate incidents and how to use the countywide hate incident reporting system.

Safety Tips for Surviving the Week-long Rain Forecast in Pasadena

With a week of rain forecasted for Pasadena and nearby areas, a set of safety tips have been compiled.

Driver should slow down, driving 5 to 10 miles below the speed limit to prevent accidents on slippery roads.

It's also recommended to have an emergency kit containing items like a first aid kit, batteries, a flashlight, and cash.

Trash bins should be placed six inches from the curb to prevent them from being carried away by rainwater.

Homeowners should clear their gutters and drains to prevent flooding, and sandbags can be used to protect homes from water damage.

Lastly, everyone should heed instructions from emergency responders and alerts.

Pasadena High School's Thanksgiving Initiative

In a bid to help those most in need during the upcoming holiday season, Pasadena High School's KIWINS and Leo Club are joining forces to host a Thanksgiving Food Drive.

With a strong belief in the power of community support and unity, these high school clubs are calling on the community to participate by donating canned food and toiletries.

The campaign, which began recently, is accepting donations up until November 17th. With a focus on shelf-stable foods and toiletries, the clubs are gathering essential items that can make a significant difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate.

In an effort to encourage participation, the clubs are offering service hours to those who donate. The initiative is not only an opportunity to give back to the community but also a chance for students to earn service hours.

The drop-off locations for donations are conveniently located within the school at the Library, Room H105, Room G208, Room 1203, and Room E208.

The clubs have made it very easy to give, and they hope that this simplicity will encourage more people to participate in this noble cause.

The Thanksgiving Food Drive is an example of the spirit of giving that is often seen during the holiday season.

The KIWINS and Leo Club, with the backing of Pasadena High School, hope that their efforts will inspire others to give and help build a stronger, more unified community.
