PCC's Veterans Resource Center: California's Best for 11 Years Running
The Veterans Resource Center (VRC) at Pasadena City College (PCC) continues to receive accolades, being named California's top veteran center by Military Times Magazine for the eleventh year running.
The VRC serves as a vital nexus for veterans, military members, and their dependents, guiding them through their transition from military to civilian life and into their academic careers.
The center's impact, while not easily quantified by traditional metrics, is described as the "heart and soul" of PCC.
The VRC's journey, from a small idea to its current expansive presence on campus, was spearheaded by dedicated individuals, growing significantly under the stewardship of director Carol Calandra.
UCLA Bruins Gear Up to Take on Arizona State in Saturday Night Showdown
The UCLA Bruins are preparing for a football showdown against Arizona State at the iconic Rose Bowl on Saturday night, November 11.
Having a remarkable track record of 18 wins in their last 25 games, the Bruins aim to keep their perfect home record this season intact.
They have been dominating the Pac-12 in several defensive categories, successfully restricting seven out of their nine opponents to under 20 points this season.
The Bruins, under the expert stewardship of head coach Chip Kelly, have a balanced offense and defense, and have shown a knack for capitalizing on turnovers.
Despite their defeat in the 2021 Rose Bowl, they are looking forward to bouncing back and continuing their strong defensive performance this season.
California Fights Misinformation with Mandatory Media Literacy in Schools
California has taken a significant step to combat misinformation by mandating media literacy education for all K-12 students.
The new law, Assembly Bill 873, signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, requires the incorporation of media literacy into curriculum frameworks for English language arts, science, math, and history-social studies.
The law has been designed to help students recognize reliable news sources and understand the crucial role that media plays in a democracy.
However, critics have pointed out that the law does not include funding for teacher training or a mechanism to monitor its effectiveness.
