Pasadena's Rose Bowl to Benefit from California's Historic Venue Restoration Act

California Governor Gavin Newsom recently enacted the Historic Venue Restoration and Resiliency Act, facilitating the preservation of historic public venues.

The law, also known as Senate Bill 96, applies to public venues built before 1940, like the century-old Rose Bowl Stadium.

Rather than drawing from the state's General Fund, this legislation retains a portion of the sales and use tax revenue generated at these venues for their restoration, infrastructure upgrades, and maintenance.

The bill was inspired by Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo, who anticipates this approach will be adopted nationally to ensure the relevance and protection of such historic venues.

Unveiling Pasadena's Untold Stories: City Launches 'Historic Places Pasadena' Project

The City of Pasadena is launching an initiative, 'Historic Places Pasadena: Completing Our Story!', to construct a more comprehensive history of the city.

The project, led by the Design and Historic Preservation division, aims to identify and highlight the city's significant historical places and events beyond the already recognized 375 historic properties and districts like Old Pasadena and Bungalow Heaven.

The city envisions this as a collaborative venture, encouraging residents to actively participate and share their personal stories, thereby ensuring that every facet of Pasadena's layered history is acknowledged and celebrated.
